About Us

If you have ever walked outdoors in the Midwest, chances are you have discovered some pesky cockleburs in your socks. Cockleburs are those spiny pods that hook into clothing and are difficult to remove. These extraordinary burs have, in fact, enabled the cocklebur plant to travel around the world.

In 1930, attorneys Albert and Eda Cockle created The CockleBur, an eight-page brochure containing quotes, jokes and items of interest. Albert and Eda created The CockleBur to promote their legal brief printing company and to leave readers with indelible tidbits that, just like a cocklebur, would be difficult to shake. The latest reincarnation of The CockleBur continues in that vein.

The CockleBur provides articles covering the law and life. Its writers come from diverse backgrounds and every ideological bent of life.  The CockleBur attempts to illuminate the law through a forum of scholarly and informational essays, interactive debates, interviews, book reviews, and literary pieces.

The CockleBur is hosted by Cockle Law Brief Printing Company—the largest producer of United States Supreme Court briefs.
